Platform Overview

Theia is SynMax’s maritime intelligence platform and maritime surveillance platform for the world’s oceans. It combines AIS data, satellite imagery, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and proprietary analytics into a single intelligence system that monitors maritime activity continuously.

AIS is the foundation of conventional maritime tracking, but AIS has gaps. Vessels disable transponders, spoof positions, and manipulate identities. Platforms that depend solely on AIS see only what vessels choose to show. Theia treats AIS as one input among many, layering satellite vessel tracking and satellite vessel detection on top to verify what AIS reports and reveal what AIS misses.

The result is a maritime intelligence platform that delivers complete vessel tracking, including the activity that AIS-only systems cannot see.

Data Capabilities

Theia fuses multiple data sources to build a verified picture of maritime activity:

AIS Data

Automatic Identification System signals provide self-reported vessel position, identity, and navigational data. AIS is foundational to Theia’s intelligence pipeline, and Theia delivers advanced AIS analytics on top of raw signal data. We use AIS as the starting point, then verify it against satellite observation to identify anomalies, gaps, and deception.

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)

Detects vessels in all weather conditions, day or night, regardless of cloud cover. SAR operates independently of visible light and identifies vessels that have disabled their AIS transponders. SAR is how Theia sees through the gaps in AIS coverage.

Electro-Optical Imagery

High-resolution optical satellite imagery for vessel identification, classification, and attribution. Used with SAR to confirm detections and add visual context.

Open Source Intelligence

Supplementary data from public registries, port records, ownership databases, and sanctions lists to enrich vessel profiles and attribution.

Automated Vessel Detection

AI-driven identification of vessels across satellite imagery at global scale.

Spoofing Pattern Recognition

Models trained to identify AIS manipulation, position spoofing, MMSI sharing, and GPS/GNSS interference patterns.

Behavioral Modeling

Pattern-of-life analysis that builds vessel profiles over time, detecting anomalies in routes, speed, heading, port calls, and cargo behavior.

Anomaly Alerting

Automated alerts triggered by deviations from expected behavior, including dark periods, unexpected stops, route deviations, and proximity events.

Vessel Classification

Machine learning models that classify vessel type, size, and role from imagery alone, independent of self-reported AIS data.

Integration Options

Theia Dashboard

Web-based interface for interactive analysis, mapping, alerting, and reporting. No installation required.

API Access

RESTful API for programmatic access to vessel data, detections, alerts, and attribution intelligence. Suitable for integration into existing maritime operations centers, compliance systems, and analytics platforms.

Secure Deployment
